Rules of play
User Agreement
This agreement sets the ground rules for using LetterRiot. It is written to be readable, but it still forms an agreement between you and LetterRiot when you use the service.
Effective
1. Acceptance of this agreement
By accessing or using LetterRiot, you agree to this User Agreement and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service. If you use LetterRiot for an organization, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organization to this agreement.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use LetterRiot.
If the law where you live requires a parent or guardian to approve your use, you may use LetterRiot only with that approval. You may not use the service if applicable law prohibits you from doing so.
3. The LetterRiot service
LetterRiot is a word game with solo play, pass-the-device local rounds, shared invite rooms, and casual or ranked matchmaking across its website and native applications. Depending on the mode, the service may validate words, calculate scores, cancel shared finds, maintain player statistics and rankings, send enabled notifications, or use a tie-breaker to resolve an outcome.
Some modes or features require an account, a compatible browser, enough players, or access to a third-party provider. Rules and available features may differ by mode and can be explained in the game interface.
4. Unfiltered dictionary warning
LetterRiot intentionally uses an unfiltered dictionary. Valid entries, words discovered or submitted during play, and definition content returned for selected words may be mature, profane, offensive, hateful, sexual, violent, or otherwise objectionable. LetterRiot does not endorse a word or definition merely because a dictionary provides it.
Consider the players, setting, and audience before starting a game. If unfiltered word content is not appropriate for you or your group, do not use the service.
5. Account responsibility
You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your sign-in methods and devices secure. Provide accurate information, do not impersonate another person, and do not transfer or share access in a way that compromises the service or another user.
Tell us promptly if you believe an account or credential has been used without authorization.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use an abusive, threatening, discriminatory, deceptive, or impersonating username;
- harass, threaten, exploit, or deliberately disrupt another player or game;
- cheat, coordinate unfairly, manipulate results, or evade gameplay limits;
- use bots, automation, scraping, or bulk requests without written permission;
- probe, bypass, or interfere with authentication, rate limits, credentials, or security controls;
- gain or attempt unauthorized access to accounts, rooms, data, or systems;
- introduce malware, overload the service, or disrupt its availability; or
- use LetterRiot for unlawful activity or to violate another person’s rights.
7. Submitted names, words, scores, and game activity
You keep any rights you have in information you submit. You give LetterRiot permission to host, copy, process, display, transmit, and retain submitted display names, words, scores, and game activity only as reasonably needed to operate, secure, improve, and support the service and preserve game history.
Do not submit information that you do not have permission to use. Submitted words may be visible to other players as part of results or game history.
8. LetterRiot intellectual property
LetterRiot and its original branding, visual design, interface, game presentation, code, and other service materials are owned by LetterRiot or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. This agreement gives you a limited, personal, revocable, non-transferable right to use the service as intended.
Third-party names, libraries, services, and dictionary material remain the property of their respective owners. No other license is granted by implication.
9. Service changes and availability
LetterRiot may add, change, limit, suspend, or remove modes, rules, rankings, statistics, providers, or other features. The service may be interrupted by maintenance, outages, security events, capacity limits, or events outside our control. We do not promise that a particular feature, room, result, or historical record will always remain available.
10. Suspension and termination
You may stop using LetterRiot at any time and may use available account-deletion tools. LetterRiot may restrict, suspend, or terminate access when reasonably necessary to enforce this agreement, protect players or the service, respond to legal obligations, prevent harm, or address prolonged inactivity or discontinued features.
Provisions that by their nature should continue after termination—including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitations, and responsibility for past activity—will continue.
11. Warranties and limitation of liability
LetterRiot is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and uninterrupted or error-free operation. We do not guarantee that dictionary results, scores, rankings, or statistics will always be accurate or preserved.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, LetterRiot is not responsible for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive losses, or for lost data, profits, opportunities, or goodwill, arising from use of or inability to use the service. LetterRiot remains responsible where liability cannot legally be excluded or limited, including any rights and remedies that applicable consumer law requires.
Any responsibility that may lawfully be limited will be limited in a manner proportionate to the nature of the service, the foreseeable harm, your actions, and any amount you paid to use LetterRiot.
12. Changes to this agreement
We may update this agreement as LetterRiot evolves. The effective date at the top identifies the current version. If a change is material, we may provide additional notice through the service when appropriate. Your continued use after an updated agreement takes effect means you accept the updated terms; otherwise, stop using the service.
